About Murderous Roots

Murderous Roots is not just another true crime podcast. While Denise and Zelda do go through the crimes committed, they explore family history of the criminals, and sometimes the victims, too. What made these men and women commit horrendous crimes? Was it how they were raised or were they born this way? We get to the heart of their murderous pasts and roots.

Twenty years ago, Denise Geelhart pestered her parents with questions about their family history. Her parents, fed up with the constant questions, handed Denise the family tree, and told her to look stuff up on her own. What began as a search for answers quickly turned into an obsession with genealogy.

Denise, an Air Force brat, mother of three, and writer, has been equally fascinated with true crime for nearly 30 years. Of course, she failed to mention this “hobby” prior to marrying her husband in 2009, keeping him on his toes ever since. In her free time, she can be found reading a book and drinking caffeine. Some of her favorite authors are John Sanford, Victoria Thompson, Earlene Fowler, Anne Perry, and Chloe Neill.

Zelda Uvarovna has lived all over the US and now resides in a city described by 45 as "embarrassing to the nation." Awkward by nature, she has a deep interest in all things criminal and a macabre sense of humor. Her favorite books include The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan and anything by Alexander McCall Smith. She wants the world to know that Sarah Kendzior was right about everything. She writes creepy fiction in her free time.
